Gingee is a fort or rather a group of forts near the town of gingee in TN. The forts are not much high but have excellent defence systems and very good architecture. There are 3 forts in all. The main fort is in the centre. the 3 fort complex is surrounded by 60 ft  thick wall of stone, almost unimaginable but existing. There are quite a few monuments inside the fort comlex (not on the fort), a huge tank, a temple, a storehouse, a huge 'wada' and many other things. the main fort itself has another wall around it along with the natural fortifications. Regular steps lead to the top of the fort where there is a hanging bridge to cross on thru the fort gates. Here also there are some building and we get a fantastic view from the top. One can also see sthe whole fort comlex and  how it may have been built and with what strategies in mind. The other two forts are smaller and lower in heght and also have some buildings on the top.In all its a very good outing if you visit madras.
