Vihar Lake Hike

Vihar Lake is a  lake supplying water to Mumbai city and is present at the edges of the Borivali National Park. From adjoining IIT, a very nice short hike leads to the shores of this lake. The hike is best done when you first climb the hill adjoining the lake and iit and then descend down to the shore. The base of the hill is near SAMEER (an institute inside iit) A small path goes upto the top of the hill which is of a height between 200-300 ft.It provides a panoramic view of the lake and all of the eastern suburbs from thane to chembur.Another path descends down the hill towrds the lake from the flat topped hill. This descends throuh a jungle and we reach a nala which is the only way to cross the water pipes.Going through this nala we reach the shore of the vihar lake. This is a leisurly place and in the nearby forest there are many birds to be seen.It is a very wet and enjoyable trek  in the monsoon with water going over boulders seeming like waterfalls when descending from the hill. But it is very flooded and muddy in the nalah as well as near the lake. But it still an enjoyable trek to hike round the shores and watch for birds and especially to cool off the summer heat.

Note:- This area is  UNSAFE.There have been murders in the area and one should stick to groups. Also one may find leopards.

How to Reach:- reach IITB and reach   SAMEER.Path begins there.
